OPUS Concerts

OPUS Concerts are part of the City Arts Program.

These are FREE CONCERTS however, donations are accepted. I do require all of my students to go to a “classical” concert as part of the Music Achievement Award Program. Good musicians listen to other musicians to learn their skill.

Reminders
Students are to bring ALL of their books each week as well as their notebooks. Keeping them together in a book bag is helpful.
Payment is due the FIRST week of the month for the entire month. That is my paycheck for paying bills.
A 24 hour notice for missed lessons is required for make-up lessons to be scheduled, unless it is an emergency or sudden illness.
Missed make-up lessons will NOT be rescheduled.
Tuition is now $80 a month for 30 minute lessons and $105 a month for 45 minute lessons.

Festivals

***GMTA Festival
The Greensboro Music Teachers will have their Festival in March  which is open to students of all levels and instruments. I usually ask students to memorize two pieces. Those who are participating in the NCMTA Festival should perform their three pieces as a dress rehearsal. Registration is $15 and is due by February 1.
***District Festival
The District Festival is in March at UNCG. The cost is $25 which is due by February 1. Students who are preparing to play for the District Festival, please keep up with your daily practice on your pieces. There is a timeline for learning, memorizing, and polishing your pieces. If it seems as though you are starting over every week to learn them, they will not be ready on time.
***Federation Festival
The Federation of Music Clubs Festival takes place also in March. Students play two pieces, one from a list and one piece of choice. The cost is $30 for each category. Let me know ASAP if you are interested in that also.
***National Piano Playing Guild Auditions
***National Piano Playing Guild Auditions are in May. That fee will be due on April 1. So students need to think about whether they want to participate in these events and start to prepare pieces.

Congratulations!
Many of my students have met the 100 Consecutive Days of Practice Challenge and have had their names printed in the Clavier Piano Explorer Magazine. Unfortunately, the magazine is now out of print. But we will continue the challenge in my studio. We are proud of them and hope to have more students meet the challenge.

Practicing
In order to be good at anything, you have to practice it over and over again until it is easy. Daily practice is essential to make music enjoyable. Your eyes, brain, ears, and fingers need to learn to work together. Some of the students have met their practice chart requirements. Others, have never written down their practice times for me. Students need to meet their practice goals for at least 5 weeks for the Music Achievement Award.

Music Achievement Award
Records are kept for each student's activities each year toward the Music Achievement Award which they will receive in June at the annual recital IF they meet their goals. Students are expected to memorize two pieces a year, attend a concert and participate in at least one activity outside of lessons. They will also learn all 15 keys of some technical exercises as well as participate in sightreading, and eartraining activities. Students will also get credit for outside activities like participation in a school, community, or church choir or instrumental ensemble; as well as events like talent shows. So let me know if you take part in these activities.
